Welcome - this site canvasses some of my modelling of the Emu Bay Railway (EBR) rollingstock in HOn3.5, an occasional sideline interest (read: very slow random progress!) from my primary HOn30 and HO scale modelling.
The EBR was a private 3'6" gauge system that serviced the west coast of Tasmania in Australia for just over 100 years before being integrated with the rest of the Tasmanian railway network in the late 1990's.
The primary operation was a line stretching south from the port of Burnie on the north west coast of Tasmania, initially through rolling farmland, then windswept high country grassland and bush before plunging deep into the rugged and mountainous central west of Tasmania.
The line has always been dominated by concentrate workings, however it also had a strong common carrier function serving mining and related communities prior to good roads reaching the area in the late 1960's.
The Emu Bay Railway was purchased by Tasrail just after its' 100th birthday in 1997 and operation has continued to this day through the subsequent owners, concentrate loadings out of Primrose and Melba Flats being the primary traffic.
My models are in HO scale (3.5 mm/foot) on 12mm gauge track - this combination (HOn3.5) has been chosen for its' fidelity to 3'6" gauge. HOn3.5 is a "modeller's scale" with no commercially available RTR rollingstock, and indeed no stock commercially available (RTR or kit) for the Emu Bay Railway. Everything here then is hand built.
